Learning how to salsa dance can be a very rewarding for you both mentally and physically building your confidence and fitness. So What is the best way to learn to salsa dance? You can search on the net for local salsa for beginners or Latin dance classes in your area, free online salsa lessons for beginners or invest in how to salsa dance DVDs that are available on the Internet.

Going to a salsa school in your local area or an area close by I believe is the best option. Why? Because you get to learn in a group environment with other people who are there for the same purpose of learning to salsa  with an experienced instructor who you can call upon to answer your questions and help you understand your salsa steps and moves. The other bonus of of learning in a class environment is that you get to mix with the other students and have the opportunity to make friendships and  practice groups outside of your classes. Classes are normally run as either 8 to 10 week courses or drop in classes also known as pay as you go classes. Ask your local dance school what type of courses/ classes they offer.There are a lot of dance schools that offer a free trail salsa lesson for beginners.

Some other things to consider when taking salsa  group classes are:

Size of the classes - some beginner salsa classes can have big numbers attending if they are drop in or pay as you go classes. The bonus about these big classes is the buzz and atmosphere that is created is quite vibrant but can be a Chaotic learning environment especially if there is only one salsa dance instructor allocated to 50 plus beginner salsa enthusiasts. Salsa courses may be the way to go if you are looking for a structured course that endeavors to have a limit of say 15 to 20 couples and has a weekly course outline. Ask the dance school if they have dance time to practice the moves after the class or dedicated time during class to dance to the music. It's not uncommon to find salsa dance classes run in night clubs where they conduct lessons and then you can dance the night away and practice as much as you like.

I have taught over 3000 people how to dance salsa over the last 9 years ranging from newbies or the beginner salsa level dancer through to the advanced level dancer. I must say that nothing else gives me as much of a thrill than teaching beginners how to salsa dance.This is because even though beginners may be a little nervous about learning this wonderful dance they bring a lot of fun and excitement to the classes, and for an instructor I can tell you first hand that there is nothing more rewarding than seeing the excitement and how proud they are when they grasp a  step or move and dance it time with the infectious beat of salsa  music.

I want to leave you with a few tips on how to get the most out of your beginner salsa  classes. As mentioned before have a can do attitude, be attentive and listen to the instructor or instructors, give it 100% effort, ask questions if you are unsure about anything you are learning,get familiar with the rhythm of the salsa  music and get your hands on a good salsa CD, practice the basics daily outside of salsa dance classes and most of all have fun.
